We are going to go way back to Memorial Day weekend (seems so long ago), only because we had a grand time. Besides, what's a blog for… other than telling everyone all the fun, and sometimes not fun, things that we do?
Do you find it so hard to blog in the summer? Really there are so many better things to do in the summer than lock yourself in the dungeon (that's what the office is called) and type about yourself.
I spent the Thursday before Memorial Day cleaning and packing for our adventure, in a state of limbo, if you would call it that. D was going to try to get work off on Friday so we could leave that night. The Jensen clan and boat were heading down to Lake Mead for 2 days of sun and warm water and we really wanted to get summer started along with them. Luckily D got Friday off, and we left for the lake only a few hours behind them.
We stayed in Overton, NV. for two nights and two days on the lake. Craziest thing about this particular boating trip is that there were maybe 5 other boats on the entire lake! On Memorial Day weekend! We got to go where ever we wanted. The water and air was a cool 68°F. The water took you breath away the first time you jumped in and then you shivered for a second after you got out. We still managed to surf to our hearts consent… and pull as many pranks as we wanted.
Someone came up with the brilliant idea of tackling the surfer off their surfboard when they weren't looking. We'll no one wanted to crush the surfer so we waited until Josh was surfing to put the plan in action, since not one of us could crush him. He caught on when Amanda started putting on a life jacket and hanging around the back of the boat while simultaneously someone else pulled out the video camera… he's a smart one (only cause he was a fat baby!). Since you can't tackle someone off the board when they know it is coming, we decided that while Amanda was still acting like she was going to tackle him, I should come from the shadows and not only tackle him, but also, surprise him.
Awesome plan…
I got completely freaked out about jumping off the boat into a brick wall and mid attack (and mid war-cry), I chickened out and did nothing but kill the element of surprise. Don't worry everyone got a good kick out of my attempt to bravery.
We spent Saturday night, after boating, in Mesquite. We spent the night in true Mesquitian style… buffets and gambling, although none of us were too into either. We managed to bowl a bit and get totally creeped out by a few people.
The Jensen fam. headed home Sunday morning. D and I also headed out to kill the 8 hours and 175 miles we had in front of us, before we would meet up with the Ross clan in Richfield. Of course we forgot our pillows in the Virgin River Extravaganza monstrosity and didn't realize until it was too late. I loved those pillows!
With our day, we tried to go to Zions, but were too cheap to pay $25 to get in, and not smart enough to sneak in. We then decided to take to scenic way from Cedar City, through Cedar Breaks and conveniently for D, past some climbing outside of Panguitch. We spent a few hours climbing and scouting out our future residence… hehe
In Richfield we met up with the Ross' in our little houses (Oli talk for hotel). On Memorial Day we headed to the Richfield cemetery to visit and decorate graves. We caught up with relatives (some I've never met before) and the Lions Club breakfast.
Before the weekend, our brother in law, Sam, had convinced me and I had talked D into riding our bikes from Richfield to Fish Lake. So at about eleven we took off from the Ross farm.
After six miles of climbing (this is only the beginning) I ate a Goo and just about threw up. For about an hour I climbed with a grin on my face from ear to ear. It pretty much went downhill from there… and very uphill from there!
It was 36 miles and almost a mile of vertical feet in the end.
D did it without even stopping, I had to walk… a bit.
The most intense 20 minutes of fishing ever! We couldn't leave until Oli caught a fish. Everyone around us was reeling in fish left and right. But we weren't. We were sitting on the edge of our seats hoping that someone would just donate a fish to say was Oli's so that we could go home.
Sam-hero got Oli a fish, he unhooked it, took some pictures, let the fish go, and then we ran to the cars.
After the drive Memorial Day weekend was over.
Phew!
